My interest in black and white photography has grown significantly in the past year or so. One of the main factors is the project I started on the Slate Quarries of North Wales, a subject matter that naturally lends itself to monochrome images. In addition I have increasingly become aware that my interest in colour work has become more selective, leaning towards low contrast and reduced saturation photographs with a painterly feel. I sometimes look at an image and realise that it is the colour balance which does not appeal to me, and consequently works better in black and white. Over time I hope to increase the number of black and white images on my website, hopefully showcasing a side to my work that was previously very limited.
